Rose garden in the Cathedral grounds
The photos above were taken this last Saturday,15 October. The scene could easily be mistaken for June. Yes, I'm glad to say that Autumn is being kind thus far, easing me gently and quietly into the last few months of the year. Regular readers of my blog will know of my aversion to Autumn weather.
I emphasise the word weather. Not the season itself, I actually like the jewel colours of the berries and of course Autumn sees bountiful harvests of apples and pumpkins. I like the crispness of falling leaves in all their russet hues. It is simply the grey weather I oppose. For me a winter's day is far preferable. An idealised day of deep blue skies lit by a sparkling low sun.
So taking advantage of the lovely weather, we took some visiting friends on a walkabout through our town, pointing out buildings of interest and snippets of history (of which this town has much to offer) and stopping for coffee in the grounds of the Refectory to the Cathedral. It was lovely to sit outside in the south- facing and still verdant garden. A rampant passion flower grows and extends all along one wall and heaves with soft orange fruit, delicious looking but entirely inedible of course.
Back home I'm enjoying these dried hydrangea heads as they turn from vibrant cerise to a lovely dusky mauve - with just a hint of completely dried yellow as the petals slowly turn and drop...

Apologies for the different typefaces of my last few posts. I'm trying to find one that is easiest on the eye - which do you prefer - this one or the previous? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jeanne,
I think I like this typeface the best. The roses are beautiful. It is this time of year that I really appreciate them for color in the garden.
Eileen
We have the same Indian Summer feel, but that was a while back, now autumn is in the air for real.;)
I think both of your fonts are lovely.;) Have a great week dear Jeanne,
xoxo

Dear Jeanne,

I like both of your typefaces...

No preference Jeanne. Which cathedral is this? Kath x
What wonderful pictures - i can almost smell them!
Like your rosses.....enjoy a happy evening...love from me...xxx..
Kath: The cathedral is in lovely Bury St Edmunds, my local town. I have blogged many times about the cathedral and its grounds and I did in fact want to link back to previous posts but couldn't get it to work!! ..... any ideas how to do this? Drop me an email if you do. x
I do love an Autumn rose Jeanne, and these are beautiful. How nice to take some friends around and show them the special places around you. Everything looks lovely there. I hope you continue to get such beautiful days this Fall.
Things here are just starting to change in my area of the US. I live in the north western part and in the mountains at 5000ft in elevation. When our colors start, it is a glorious sight and hard to capture with a camera.
I wish a lovely Wednesday Jeanne.
Hugs to you...
The roses look beautiful. Autumn has been so unpredictable this year. the sunshine has been gorgeous but there's a definite chill in the air today.
orgeous pics thank you so much.
Lovely photos, the roses are still hanging on but I think it is really Autumn now! Both fonts are good,it is difficult choosing tho!
I can almost smell the roses, and those hydrangeas are lovely :)
I vote for this post's font.
Amazing to still have such blooming! Love the hydrangea colors. Either type works well, maybe this one is easiest, though I often use the one you had last time, I like its design.
Dear Jeanne,
The rose garden photos look indeed as if they were take some time at midsummer. What a beautiful garden! In my garden there are only a few last roses in bloom and due to some frosty nights I already had to remove the dahlias. So there´s not much left except for cosmos and scabiosa. After a very sunny weekend we have now typically grey, cold and windy autumn weather...
Liebe Grüße, Bärbel
PS: I prefer this typface. :-)
Jeanne, I never noticed the typeface because the words are always so interesting to read nothing else distracts me. What beautiful roses. I can hardly believe they are flowering like that in October. Must be in a very sheltered spot form wind and rain. The hydrangea is gorgeous too in dusky mauve.... are they the same colour as those cherished wedge sandals from Biba?
Both fonts are great, this one is a bit larger and easier to read first thing in the morning (pre cuppa).
Great photos, and wow! What flowers!
Glad your autumn is shaping up the way you like it.
Dear Jeanne, such beautiful photos! It's always such a pleasure to drop by. I like both typefaces but actually prefer this one. Have a wonderful day XO
Those roses look wonderful! I think this year has been good for hydrangeas and there are some wonderful colours amongst them as I pass by people's gardens - I saw one today still with bright blue flowers on one side, mauves in the middle and soft pinky greens at the far side where the flowers were coming to an end:)
KEEKS!
Jeanne, I have emailed you about linking. Hope it makes sense LOL
It is our table ......and yes verry beautiful indeed....thanks love from me...sleep well...xxx...
We have to make the most of every decent day we get now, it's all downhill from here. It looks like you got a gorgeous day to sit outside with your coffee though. Since you ask, I prefer the typeface on this post best.
Dear Jeanne,
You always amaze me with your beautiful pictures and this time is no exception.Lovely rosepictures and we sure have had a wonderful autumn this year. Sunny and warm all the way in October. It's been lovely! But now we can feel the cold and high autumnair and it's actually very nice too. I like thos crisp and cold mornings aswell. :)
